SPIRITUAL ENTERTAINMENT IN THE KINGDOM OF GRANADA (635-897 AH / 1237-1492 AD)

Abstract

The councils of literature, people and mirth are among the manifestations of social life that were common in the countries of Andalusia in general, and Granada in particular, in order to liberate the Andalusian individual and his attachment to life and its pleasures, and to escape from the lived reality, and under the influence of the picturesque Andalusian nature, and due to the prevalence of luxury and extravagance among Granadian society. Its members, in different classes, set up social gatherings in which to socialize, enjoy and have fun, to the point where the matter reached slippage and departure from the teachings of the Islamic religion. Wine glasses were served in it, with music and dancing, chanting of verses of spinning, asceticism, mysticism, praise, satire and lamentation, in addition to their development of the art of muwashahat and zajal. Music occupied a prominent place in the city of Granada, as the Andalusian society adored it as no other society loved it, so it was the common “language” that all its members understood, and through which they expressed their feelings and dreams. , and in their practice or listening to them, and these councils brought everyone closer, and unified their voices in singing and their instruments in playing, so their melodies came as a mirror that reflects the musical tendencies of all the races that make up this society and tests to the extent of the interdependence, mixing, coexistence and cooperation between them in the light of the Arab Islamic civilization.
