GENDER DIFFERENCE IN STUDYING SKILLS AND RELATIONSHIP WITH ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: A STUDY ON SENIOR SECONDARY STUDENTS

Abstract

Studying skill, perceived as learning skill, are characterized by various skills of acquiring new knowledge in school/academic institution. Academic achievement is generally considered a measure of how much knowledge has been achieved. The objective of this study is to test the gender difference in various studying skills in academic setting. Total 240 students (120 girls and 120 boys) were taken through random sampling from five Senior Secondary private schools of Meerut city, who were administered the study skill inventory and the percentage of last class was recorded as the academic achievement. Collected data was analyzed through t-test and Pearson correlation. Results of this study exhibited that girls are significantly higher than boys in terms of reading, memory, text preparation and concentration. Except reading, all four skills of studying were found to be correlated positively with academic achievement.
