DESIGN A SMART WEARABLE SYSTEM FOR THE ELDERLY USING IOT
Abstract
Most senior people experience a number of health issues. These include memory loss, a diminished capacity to aid themselves. Because of these issues, the elderly often requires constant supervision and assistance. To address this challenge, this article suggests building an IoT-based integrated healthcare system with a tracking system for the elderly. The vital signs are monitored using sensors, and the data is uploaded to the cloud using a Wi-Fi module. The components of the system are the sensors, the microcontroller (ESP32), and the software. The system monitors, displays, and stores the patient's heart rate, SPO2, temperature, and position, sending the data to the doctors' mobile phones using the application. It also helps the patient remember medication times through reminder messages and alarms. In addition, if one of the parameters exceeds the threshold value, a notification will be sent to the doctor's mobile device. The device consists of a patient-carried unit and a caregiver-carried unit, which is an application built on an Internet of Things platform. The wearable module used microcontrollers (ESP32), GPS module, heart rate sensors, blood oxygen sensors, temperature sensor and OLED screen. Sensor data and preparation times for medications were collected during system testing with a group of elderly people. Furthermore, they could find the patient's precise position on a Google map by the latitude and longitude coordinates values.
