PERCEPTION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS TOWARDS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIGITAL PEDAGOGY IN THE DOMAIN OF MATHEMATICS

Abstract

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020has put a great emphasis on engaging and enjoyable learning. The teaching learning process should make an extensive use of available technology and the focus of education should shift from mere cognitive development to the holistic development that is acquisition of skills much needed in 21st century.  The current paper aims to analyse the teachers’ perception of the effectiveness of digital pedagogy in teaching mathematics and its impact in developing 21st-century skills specifically critical thinking and problem-solving skills amongst secondary school students. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted, wherein a self-made questionnaire weas distributed among 200 teachers teaching Mathematics to secondary school students to comprehend their opinions regarding the concerned topic. The results of the study revealed that digital technology plays an important role and is effective for teaching mathematics, helps in developing 21-st century skills among the students and also assists in developing problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills among the students. The study further recommends that it is essential to develop proper infrastructure and educate the school teachers regarding the use of digital technologies in order to ensure a widespread usage of digital tools and technologies in classrooms.
