MIRABIA, BHAKTI SAINT OF SEVENTH CENTURY ROLE AND CONTRIBUTION IN RELIGION REFORMATION
Abstract
The present work is an endeavour to evaluate theMirabai, as the most illuminating episode in the Indian History, she was the legendary devotion of Mirabai to Lord Krishna. She remains truthful to the mystical journey within, despite the demands of the royal household. She is a symbol of honesty, innocence, calm devotion and single-mindedness. The intolerant feelings about the religious conduct of Mirabai in the palace, and brings out the conflict between her desire and obligations. The main climax and irony is borne out when Mirabai drinks the poisonous contents of the golden goblet sent by Rana Sanga, her father-in-law, and still remains blissfully absorbed in the adoration of Lord Krishna. The main purpose of this paper to provide a brief understanding of the Bhakti movement which spread in early India and the Indian literature which sprang out of it. The focus of the paper is to identity the features of Bhakti poetry and the relevance of the ideas in the contemporary world. The paper proposes to focus in particular on Saint Mirabai- one of the well-known women poets of the Bhakti movement.
